Why does common sense never prevail when it comes to Scottish Football? Yesterday the SPFL announced the venues for the Scottish League Cup semi-finals. The rumours, instigated by the BBC had been that the games would both be played at Easter Road. Nearly a fortnight after the draw was made they have announced that Aberdeen’s game with St Johnstone will be played at Tynecastle on Saturday 1st February, with the other game between Hearts and Inverness Caley Thistle to be played at Easter Road on Sunday 2nd February.

So where’s the problem? Let’s look at the first game between ourselves and St Johnstone. One teams based in Perth, the other is based in Aberdeen. Was Tynecastle the best solution? The other genuine options would have been Ibrox, Parkhead and Easter Road. Let’s discount Ibrox and Parkhead straight away (remember Hampden can’t be used due to Commonwealth Games commitments)…
